Jason Richmond

Founder, Torobelly Labs

Jason Richmond is a creative executive and independent operator who works in the space where two worlds are colliding: the people building what's next, and the people who hold the catalogs, franchises, and IP that generations were built on.

The new tools coming out of frontier labs will shape how culture gets made, and what happens to the culture we already own. After nearly two decades leading divisions inside major entertainment companies, Richmond now works hands-on with the founders, creators, and IP holders navigating that collision, where no playbook exists. Through Torobelly Labs, he serves as a creative partner, operator, and investor with platforms including Feels Music Messaging and TalkShopLive.

His work is grounded in a track record in legacy media. At IMAX, Richmond helped lead the buildout of the company's live entertainment division from scratch. Within 24 months, the unit was producing original theatrical series and immersive broadcasts with artists including Drake, Kanye West, and Halsey. Brandi Carlile's In the Canyon Haze made Variety's Best Concerts of the Year list.

Prior to IMAX, Richmond spent nearly 15 years at Paramount Pictures, rising to Senior Vice President of Music for Features, Television, and Marketing. Managing a rare dual remit of overseeing music across features and marketing campaigns, he worked on more than 100 films and global franchises, including Transformers and Mission: Impossible. Known for championing the bets other people wouldn't make, he was a driving force behind Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which grossed $99 million on a $13 million budget and remained the highest grossing concert film of all time for over a decade. He also provided executive oversight for the five time Emmy winning Grease: Live!

He has worked intimately with top tier talent and legendary composers including Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, and Brian Tyler. He represented Paramount at Abbey Road Studios as Sir Elton John and Giles Martin shaped the original arrangements for Rocketman, and he spearheaded the Golden Globe, Grammy, and Oscar winning awards campaign for "Glory" by John Legend and Common from the film Selma.

Standing up for artists is not something Richmond picked up on the job. It has been in his family since before he was born. He is a part owner of TRO Essex Music Group, his family's independent publishing firm founded by his grandfather Howard Richmond and currently led by his father Larry Richmond. The catalog spans Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Who, Black Sabbath, Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, and Pete Seeger.

He holds a BFA in Film & Television Production from Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
